What's in My Bag, and Biological Photoshopping for Filofaxes

A disclaimer: my Filofaxes have not and will not have plastic surgery. Nor will I, by the way.
"Biological photoshop" is the euphemism for this area of the medical field as noted on UrbanDictionary.com. Clever, aren't they?

I finally had a moment made the time and thought I'd share what I carry in my purse at the moment.   I have read countless "what's in my bag" posts, but I felt I was slacking in my sharing of this information.  Naturally, I took 10 minutes to tidy up a mess before sharing my world with all of you, dear readers. No lollipop wrappers (kids), used Kleenex (kids), or miscellaneous, wrinkled receipts (me), coupons (me), or such (both) here!

The bag itself is a "Morgan" style Vera Bradley bag. It was a steal on Ebay, and it has 2 exterior pockets, 3 internal slots for stuff, and one internal, zippered pocket. Not too big, not too small. I don't carry all of my kids' things in a diaper bag any longer. That is why they have little backs and backpacks of their own to shlep stuff to and from places. No, I'm not bitter.

The Morgan bag in Barcelona. The pleated, external pockets are nice!

The inside is as attractive as the outside. Love that about Vera Bradley bags!

The Goods.
Here are the mainstays found within my purse. Top row, left to right: pencil case, a hand-me-up from my dd #1 (looking for a smaller one as we speak), and my beloved Crackberry in Red Pearl. I guess I do like red accessories after all.  Middle row: new-to-me VB American wristlet that contains my Canon A1200 point-and-shoot camera and extra batteries, my keys, dd #1's blue glitter polish (honest!), Clinique lipstick in Candy Pink, Altoids (obviously), and extra hair ties for me and the girls. Bottom row: prescription sunglasses, Crimson personal Malden (primary planner), Black pocket Malden (wallet), and a pocket Posh crosswords book I just acquired at a local TJ Maxx (while scouring for cute stationery stuff).

I found this at the Maxx, also--a beautiful way to organize inserts, tabs, stickies, and such.

Readying self for Filofax updating, reconfiguring, and restyling.
New Frixion set to the right--yay!

A sample of each of the colors in my  FriXion Ball point .7 rainbow.
Color coding is now imminent.

The Morgan, fully loaded. Love the Maldens tucked in all color-coordinated and all!  Pink FriXion ball point with cap wins the loop position. The external pocket is perfect for my phone.

Another look at the wristlet perched upon a different VB pattern. Another post is in the works.

Off to create a Filofax to -do list--a list of updates to make in my purposed Filos and within the everyday Maldens. While not a fan of plastic surgery, I love metaphors.  And, since I anthropomorphize the poor things, why not?  My Crimson Malden needs liposuction (poor stuffed Filofax!), and the Black one a Botox shot. A facelift is in order for an empty red Domino that is staring angrily at me for neglecting him. and his A5 cousins, the Pink Finsbury, Bronze Domino, and Classic Chocolate could each use a facial.  I won't even talk about the rest of the Filofax crew. They will simply  have to wait their turn to see Dr. Sandra.

Summer is a time to reinvent oneself before the school bell rings in the fall, right?  Thanks for reading!

And colour coordinates perfectly with your Malden which is the best thing ever of course.

  2. Thank you! I am shopping for a larger tote for longer days out--this poor bag would bust if tucked much more within it.

  3. How does a pocket Filo work as a wallet? Is there a slot for paper money? How many card slots? What inserts do you keep in it? And what do you do with coinage? Maybe you could do a blog post??? (hint hint hint!)

  4. Suggestion: Pleated Tote. Holds a LOT of stuff, but still not too large to lug around.
    Great post, Dr. Sandra!
Do you carry inserts in your wallet too? How does that work? Do you coordinate information between that and the personal size?

  5. @Roanne The pocket Malden has a full width pocket unlike other pocket styles. I keep dollars there and what little change I carry in the inside left zippered pocket. There are three slots on the inside left that are generous in what they can accommodate. I also pop a few cards inside the inside right pockets.

Will plan on that post moving up the priority list! :)

@Rori Thank you for the suggestion! I was eyeing that style inside of a Betsy. That was your Mom's Day gift, right?

I only carry a few inserts in my pocket-one week on a page, plain shopping list paper, inspiring quote, picture of kids, and such. Am in process of revamping and really *try* to carry as little as I need to within it so as not to duplicate my personal's duties. Crimson takes them quite seriously, you know! ;)

  7. We just want to be like J. Like J. If I could be like J. ;) You probably don't remember that Gatorade/Michael Jordan commercial...*sigh*

Put the set on your gift wishlist. And, glad you liked the post! Your bag post inspired me to get blogging. Unfortunately, now my dh really thinks I am crazy. Whatever. ;)

  8. Betsy is the style my mom carries. I have the pleated tote. Not EVEN enough room in the betsy for extras...unless you (unlike me) don't carry books, kindle, pen bag, wallet, "stuff" bag, notebook, various and sundry kid things, glasses, sunglasses....wait, have I gone too far??

  9. Great post! I too have the Morgan, and while it's a lovely bag, I find it a bit too small for everything I carry in it. It's prefect if I leave my planner at home. It fits okay but to find other things, I have to pull everything out. I also have the Tie tote which is a good size but it is in retirement.

    Don't you love those Frixions?

@J - See what happens? We listen to all the enabling and then trump you all with awesome sets. ;)

  11. @Rori--Your poor shoulder! ;) Am still looking a bit--thanks!

@kanalt-Thank you! Its opening is a bit small--I agree. Unloading the entire bag to find one item is annoying. Thinking about a Betsy or something similiar. Have to see about a Tie tote on Ebay...

Yes--love my FriXions! Poor J...she started the party but we shopped without her. ;)

@Imy--Hee hee. Thank you! I have had Crimson since February, and the black for just a few weeks. I think both can handle being tossed around a bit because of their glazed finish.

Thank you so much for your very kind words! x

  12. I love how colorful your bag and accessories are! I figure, a handbag is a thing of function, but if you have to lug it around everyday, it may as well be gorgeous and fun to look at, too--not just on the outside, but when you take a peek inside! I'm inspired to do a whats-in-my-bag post, too--if you don't mind. (Just as soon as I edit out the embarrassing bits and crumbs that have accumulated.)

I think I'm convinced I need to try out the Frixion pens. But la-la-la...still not listening to any Malden talk...don't need another Filofax...(yet)...

  13. A wonderful post, I adore that photo where your lovely Morgan is stuffed and ready to be out and about! I've been pretty loyal to the VB Villagers but your Morgan is quite lovely to look at and functional, too!
